A confused NFST member trying to explain what this team is about!

Starting off, that title was clickbait. Not every day is confusing. You may ask, “What does this guy mean by confusing?” Well you know how on some days nothing goes right for you, like someone asks for a glass of water and you bring them an empty glass, you take a shower and realize you still have all that baby shampoo in your hair. Well that's nearly my every day because, when you work on something entirely new out of your syllabus with nothing but as the French say “monsieur google” as your guide. Well you are bound to make the dumbest mistakes.

That’s the thing with formula student. Everything we do is so cutting edge (at least for us students) that you are bound to be overwhelmed. If you aren't overwhelmed with whatever work you are doing then that’s a clear sign your formula student car is not a good one. This entire event, everything about it is designed to push you out of your comfort zone. Everything about you will be pushed and tested to its current limit. It’s because of that push you will discover something about yourself. It’s a well-known fact that a year in our team is equivalent to 4 years of growth (I made that fact up).

All that mental pushing with the added stress of university makes for one…..something. It makes something, I have no idea what that something is. Allow me to try and explain this all the while adding more words to the article so it fits the entire page. So within this everyday grind there’s one thing that all of us enjoy that is: creating something. It’s extremely fulfilling creating something as a team, designing it and then placing all the bits together with your own two hands.

It’s not about the grades and this is definitely not about the traditional aimlessly competing with everyone in class. This is about 50 people all obsessed with the art of creating something just because they want to. As our team lead once said in a meeting,” we are a cult” ('buttering up the team leads, check!). That explains us, we are fanatics of engineering and our supreme leader is our collective will to build an amazing piece of engineering.

Anyone reading this has to understand that we aren’t doing this for any 'tangible return. The only thing every single one of us looks forward to is seeing our year-long effort translate out into a piece of art.

P.S if reading this was just confusing. Welcome to my world!
